Egg Decorating

We had some friends over to decorate Easter eggs. 

I used my trusty chalkboard spray paint, to transform plastic eggs into a canvas for the kiddos to create beautiful works of chalk art. 

I got up extra early to make natural dye for Bubba, and boil 2 dozen eggs. 

I don't know what I did wrong, but the homemade dye didn't work too well. But he still seemed to enjoy it. 

We used a dye kit that I picked up at the dollar store for the rest of the kids, and they had a blast. 

They also got to decorate foam eggs with fun Easter stickers. 

I think my favorite was the chalk eggs.

Easter Egg Tree

I love those little Easter egg trees. But they are just so tiny, and just so breakable when Bubba's little hands come in contact with them. 

So I made a larger version

Using a few of the million plastic eggs I'm trying to get rid of, baker's twine, and the branches from our Resolution Tree.

I added a bit of crinkle paper for grass. 

Now, every time I look at the tree, I think of that song that goes "and the green grass grew all around, all around, and the green grass grew all around." It may also have something to do with listening to the For Our Children: the concert CD {yea, another throw back to my youth} with Bubba and hearing that song over and over.

Like this kid really needed something else in the house to make a loud noise. 

Remember my box of Easter eggs?

Of course I will save some for the Easter bunny to hide, but there is no way she (the bunny is a she in this house) will be hiding all of them; so I've slowly been thinking of uses for all of them.

I used a few for the felt eggs.

I borrowed some beans from the box Bubba plays with to fill a few eggs. 

Then, I glued them shut so he couldn't get them open and make a huge mess. 

Remember to let the glue dry completely before letting your little one play with them. I have to mention that Bubba grabbed them before they were dry and managed to pop one open....so yea. it is worth mentioning. 

Even though they were glued shut, he still tried to open them because what is making the noise is far more interesting than shaking them, of course.

I ♥Felt - Felt Eggs

I've wanted to make felt food to replace Bubba's plastic food in his kitchen/shopping cart for awhile now, but haven't had the time to do so.

The other day, while thinking of different uses for the box of plastic Easter eggs I bought, I had the brilliant idea to make felt eggs to go inside a few. And, really, eggs seemed like the easiest food to start off making.

I did a little google searching, and found a whole collection of tutorials for felt food on Apartment Therapy. Since I was starting with eggs, I used the tutorial from One Crafty Mumma as my guide.

I used the template provided for the egg yolk, but decided to create my own stencil for the whites.

As you can see, I didn't use a sewing machine like One Crafty Mumma. I'm not so good at sewing anything other than a straight line, so I thought it would be quicker and less frustrating to do it by hand. 

Sew one side of the yolk, stuff, then sew closed. 

Sew 2 egg white pieces together.

I did give this one a try on the machine, but liked the hand sewn look better.

It was so cute how excited he was to pop open the eggs.

Flipping eggs!

 I don't know where he has picked this up from {he's never seen me try to do that}, but I think it's so awesome that he did it...we'll see if he can flip real eggs one day {when he's older, of course}.

I also made the orange slices from One Crafty Mumma. I'll post those soon.
