Step by Step {day by day}

 As soon as I wrote the title, the theme song from the show Step by Step popped into my head, so naturally I had to add the {day by day} part in there. Did you watch that show? I loved it.

I've finally made some progress in the Master bedroom. Now, I'm two steps closer to finishing!

Remember those doors I picked up off the side of the road?

With a fresh coat of paint {and a little distressing}, they now reside at the head of our bed.
(Side-note: the turquoise pillows are on their way out, I just haven't gotten to that on my list yet)

I tried to get a close up shot so you could see the distressing, but it just wasn't showing up in the picture the way it looks in person.

So, ummm, ya wanna come over and see it?

I also picked up a new sheet set from Target - grey and white print. The print is a swirly square thing - I like it, Hubs not so much {but he's just being difficult. he likes to disagree for fun}.

My dream is to have bamboo sheets {not these particular ones, but you get the idea}, but they are way more than I am willing to spend right now {not so budget friendly}; and my new sheets were on sale {super budget friendly}.


I'm still kicking myself for not acting faster and buying them on My Habit when I saw them on sale. I'm referring to the bamboo sheets, if I lost you.

I also made another this chalkboard, so Hubs and I can write sweet messages to each other.  He laughed at me. But I know deep down he thinks it's cute. He just has a manly image to uphold.  


It doesn't have a home in the room yet, hence the reason for being photographed on a chair. I have an idea of where it will go, but I need to gather a few more things for the wall before I decide on final placement.

Yay!

Pop of Color

Hubby and I picked up this table at a yard sale quite a few months ago; and while I have had it painted and in my living room for awhile now, I was not quite finished with it. I removed the faux leather that had once resided on the table, and was left with these two empty rectangles, that were calling for some color. 

If you haven't noticed, a lot of the furniture {and trim, and book shelves} in my house is white. I know this is kind of crazy with a 2 year old, but I love it. Nearly 2 years ago, when we moved in, I had every intention to add pops of color throughout the space .... and just hadn't gotten around to it {it's kinda hard sometimes balancing life with a toddler and a hubby that is deployed frequently}. 

But, hey, at least I got the table painted. 

While flipping through some scrapbook paper for Bubba's placemat craft, I found this paper and fell. in. love.

It was just what I had been picturing. 

I used 2 pieces of scrapbook paper, and {homemade} mod podge to adhere it to the table.


The scrapbook paper wasn't quite the right shape, so I had to trim it and add the small strip on the right. Aside from the pattern being a bit off, you can't notice the seam. Unless, you get all up close and personal; and if I were the table, I might just have to tell you to back up off me. But, I'm not, and tables don't talk .... so don't worry, I won't get mad if you try to inspect it.

Once dry, I sprayed it with some Krylon Matte Finish.

Super simple, and made my boring table look so lively. I just love how it turned out!

Decor Redo: Candleholder to Soap Dish

I saw a pin on Pinterest, to use a cake stand as a hand soap dish. {sorry, for some reason I can't find the pin}

I have been searching for a small enough cake stand for a couple months now ..... and have yet to find one that is (A) small enough, and (B) cheap enough for me to buy it.

Then, last week, I stopped by the thrift store, and I found this little candle holder. It's the perfect little size, and was the perfect little price.

I used Krylon Dual Paint & Primer in red, and Krylon Crystal Clear Gloss Finish. {And, really, if I had already had the right color spray paint to match Bubba's bathroom at home, I would have only spent $3 on this whole project}

I really liked how it turned out. Except, I would not have a bar of soap to put there to take the photo .... but at least I had a couple small sample bars from the Conscious Box I bought last month. 

DIY Home - Master Bedroom Makeover : Painting Day!

When you're combing through the pins on Pinterest, do you ever get that "man, my house really sucks compared to these homes" feeling? It sometimes happens to me. And since, we won't be leaving this home for one of those 4,000 square feet dream homes {yes, HGTV, I'm referring to you} anytime soon, I figured it was about time to do some updating

When we purchased our home a year and a half ago, it came freshly painted in this nice neutral tan color....in every room (including the closets). Hubby was deployed when we moved in, so I surely was not going to tackle re-painting any rooms by myself with a little one. So we just left every room this color, which was fine at first. Now, going on 2 years later, it is time for some new paint (and a little rearranging).

Before

Our room has turned into a dumping ground of sorts. It becomes home to Little Man's toys, books, and clothes, random papers, tools, boxes filled with junk, etc. If it was left out in the house, and didn't have a home, it probably ended up in our room at some point. 

And now it's time for all of it to go. Hubby and I are reclaiming our bedroom! {Look at me taking charge....go me, go me, go go go me}

After

I used Olympic ONE Paint (their new paint + primer interior paint), and the color we chose is called Secret Passage. I use Olympic for nearly everything I paint (aside from when I use spray paint), because I like that it is No VOC (ONE is low VOC). 

I also rearranged the furniture; and the new layout really opens up the room. The accent color for the room will be yellow, and white - a creamy white...called mountain grey; my go to color for all of my furniture. 

Next up, curtains and duvet...and maybe hanging up my clothes! 

 Oh, and we just ordered this print to hang in the room, but with a yellow background. Can't wait for that to arrive!
